Running Coach
Looking for a running coach? We can provide someone to help achieve your goals, whether you’re taking your first steps or you are a seasoned veteran trying to improve your PRs. We have helped many runners improve their fitness and endurance while running their first races or bettering their times.
We offer a wide range of services that incorporates scientific training theory based on your experience and athletic ability. We help to keep you accountable and motivated. Our coaching is done in a positive, encouraging manner helping you to enjoy the process of running while becoming a better runner.
Many runners have unique circumstances in their training and scheduling. Our coaching individualizes all workouts and training plans, so that each individual can be successful. You will find the various types of runners that use our services.
New Runners
There are many people that are looking to start running for the first time. We understand how difficult and intimidating it can be to take those first steps. We provide a nurturing and understanding environment. It is important to start slow, only a couple times a week, even if it means combining some walking and running together. Additionally, we find it important that you enjoy the sport of running and the time you spend outdoors. Thus it is our aim to make it a pleasurable experience, so that running becomes a lifelong habit. In a short time, we’ll have you running some more miles, as you start thinking of running in your first race. We can help you reach that joy and satisfaction of crossing the finish line of any distance for the first time!
Need to Pass a Test
We work with many individuals that are trying to pass a certain running test, such as those designed for the police academy, military, or team tryouts. Our training plan approaches from both angles: slow pace with high volume and a faster pace with short repetitions. Eventually the two will converge and you’ll be running at a faster pace with high volume. In a couple months, you’ll be running more miles, all at your goal pace! Our individualized plans and ability to get results is really important for those looking to pass their test or tryout.
Looking for a Better Training Plan
Someone to write your training plans and help coach you, can be critical to your improvement as a runner. There are many people that need to be held accountable for their workouts and hitting their paces. More importantly, there are plenty of athletes that struggle to organize their workouts properly and find that delicate balance between mileage and pace. Going out too fast for that first mile or first rep can ruin the whole training day. Our coaching helps you do all the correct workouts throughout the year, the week, and to properly complete each run and workout.
Wanting to Improve Times
After coaching over 22 All-Americans, Kevin understands all of the idiosyncrasies of creating a winning training plan. We believe in a high mileage training plan with long runs, tempo runs, and interval workouts. Competing well on race day is more than just pounding the pavement. There are so many details that must fit together perfectly, for your workouts and your season. We have the experience to get the most out of your training, as well as understanding the nuisances to help you race better.
Other Coaching
We also offer track & field coaching services that go beyond endurance and running coaching. We offer help with off-season training for other sports, speed and combine coaching for those who want to get an edge, as well as elite and beginner coaching in the hurdles, long jump and triple jump. Sport Specific Coach
Sunlight Fitness provides many different services for the serious athlete. Over the past few years, we have helped athletes improve their combine performances to increase their chances of becoming drafted and playing professional sports. We have also assisted athletes in their strength and conditioning across various sports.
We offer the following the services:
Track & Field Coaching: Lead trainer Kevin Semanick has been a track & field coach for the past 5 years, as well as involved with the sport his entire life. His specialties include the hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and sprinting, where he has coached 22 All-America citations and nearly 50 school records. Most of his athletes have dropped seconds from their hurdle time and increased their jumps by several feet within only a few months. Additionally, he offers other services including pole vault, high jump, and throwing help.
Off-season Training Plans: This service is provided for high school and college students that need some guidance during their non-traditional sports season. These plans are the best for track athletes in the summer and fall, football players in the winter and spring, and soccer players in the spring and summer. With a positive off-season base fitness, many athletes proceed to have tremendous results. This plan type would be similar to the On Your Own personal training plan.
Speed Training/Combine Preparation: Regardless of the test, Sunlight Fitness will provide athletes with the knowledge and training to improve your stats for any tryout. First, we teach the proper mechanisms for a good start, either via block start, down start, or 3-point start, which is so important for a 40 yard, 55 meter, or 60 yard dash. Second, we explain the drive phase and importance of acceleration. Finally, we explain the execution of sprinting including arm movements and force from the lower body. We also provide any other assistance needed to pass any other fitness tests.
Other services/coaching: We will assist you with any sport specific needs to get you ready for the season. This includes all types of speed training and endurance workouts. We also provide the necessary instruction on the skills important for your sport, including soccer drills, plyometrics for volleyball and football, and strength training for the muscle groups for your sport.
At Sunlight Fitness, we take pride in offering individualized and flexible services. Although most of our sports-specific rates are similar to our personal training rates, we will give discounts to serious athletes with substantial and realistic goals. In addition to our college student discount, we also can offer you support, training, and instruction throughout your entire season and year. We’d be happy to attend your meets, competitions, and games at no extra cost. With all our sports-specific training, our rates are negotiable.
